SITD invests in women’s futures by empowering them through educational training and scholarships, as well as in supporting local community programs in Truckee and North Tahoe.

SITD has successfully supported local women and girls in achieving more economic independence to live their dreams. Your support has enabled us to award $87,444 this fiscal yea in grants and scholarships, which in turn, impacted 956 women and girls.
 
The following statistics and stories are a just a few of the ways your donations have helped to impact the lives of local women.

Empowering Women and Girls

  • A total of $10,000 to four women as part of SIA’s Live Your Dream Program for women who are head of household, have a financial need and are pursuing their vocational or educational goals.
  • A total of $16,000 to six women in our community pursuing their education and training post-high school as part of our club’s signature Career Advancement Scholarship (CAS).
  • A total of $16,500 High School Scholarships pledged to six graduating women.
Teen Mom at 14, she has earned her MS Degree in Social Work from UNR and is now working as a social worker for Tahoe Forest Hospital.
Scholarship from our CAS enabled this young woman to complete her vocational career certificate in auto mechanics.
Single mom enrolled in Sierra College with a plan to earn a degree in Psychology, while working at the Boys and Girls Club in Truckee.

OVERALL COMMUNITY SUPPORT

In addition to supporting women and girls in our community, your donations have aided SITD in supporting numerous deserving community needs and efforts, such as:

Senior Services
Granted $8,000 for the purchase, delivery and installation of a new stove to provide Meals on Wheels for house bound seniors, and those living in the senior apartments, an average of 60 women daily.
Sierra Community House
Provided a $5,000 grant to purchase educational supplies for the SCH Family Room.
Teen Closet
SITD hosted a baby shower among its members to collect infant clothing and diapers. The baby goods are kept on hand at the local high school for teen parents in need.
North Tahoe Truckee Homeless Services
$4,000 was granted to North Tahoe Truckee Homeless Services to help women and children with housing, food, and transportation over the year.
Combating Sex Trafficking
$5,000 was directed to produce and put up posters (Spanish and English) in local businesses including restaurants, bars, and gas stations directing women to a 24/7 help line, and provided supplies for women who have been victims.
Toy Drive
30 SITD women gathered and sorted over 1,500 toys to support 519 children and 228 families as part of the Truckee Community Cares Toy Drive.
Soroptishop Artisan Faire
Organized a venue for more than 60 local artisans to sell their handcrafted goods in November, the proceeds of the event support ongoing scholarship and grant programs
48th Annual Wine & Restaurant Faire
Organized and held long running fundraiser complete with local wineries, restaurants and a silent auction.  More than 300 attendees enjoyed an evening of wine, food and music.
Truckee High School/Sierra High School
Provided financial support for various Education, Arts, Science and Sports Programs.
Truckee Community Theater
Provided scholarships for women and girls acting program.
