SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF TRUCKEE DONNOR (SITD) CELEBRATES 50TH BIRTHDAY on October 31, 2021 (TRUCKEE, CA)
Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner (SITD) celebrated their 50th birthday by hosting a dinner on October 28th . The keynote speaker for this celebration was Yulisa Mendez, the 2016 Live Your Dream award winner. Thirty guests shared dinner, stories and the history of SITD. Soroptimist International turned 100 years old on October 3rd . Founded in 1921 in San Francisco with 80 founding members, Soroptimist International is now an international club with over 75,000 members. The Sierra Nevada region has 52 clubs with over 1,400 members. The mission for all is to empower women and girls.

Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner was chartered November 3, 1971. Interestingly, SITD donated the first infant monitor to Tahoe Forest Hospital in 1982. In 1975, SITD started the first Wine Tasting Party at Northwoods Clubhouse. Tickets only cost $2.50 to raise $600 for high school scholarships. Since 1990, SITD has awarded $184,000 in scholarships and grants to women and has given $590,000 in local grants in our community.

On October 26th , Mayor Anna Klovstad read a proclamation at the Town Council meeting to honor SITD for their 50 years of service to the Truckee community.
Soroptimist President-Elect, Denise Trani-Morris said, “It was an honor to be among other members to learn about our Club’s history and celebrate 50 years of Soroptomist community service in Truckee.”
