Youth Appreciation Awards
- Each Spring SITD presents awards to students from Truckee High School and Sierra High School.
- Students are nominated by their teachers for demonstrating self-motivation, responsibility, dependability, helpfulness and positive attitudes.
- SITD hosts a Youth Appreciation Luncheon where the students are introduced to the members and presented with their award.
Youth Scholarships
- High School seniors in Truckee can apply for a scholarship to help them attend either a 2 technical year program or a 4 year college
- SITD High School Scholarships are managed through the Tahoe Truckee Scholarship Committee (TTCSC)
Community Youth Programs
- Soroptimist International has encouraged clubs to sponsor an S Club at a local high school.
- We sponsor the S Club at Sierra High School.
- We encourage S Club members to:
- provide service in their community
- raise funds for their community
- support international projects
- This year we are including a 7 week mentoring program developed by Soroptimist International to guide at risk girls towards meaningful careers.
- We encourage S Club members to:
- Sierra Teen Education & Parenting Program ( STEPP )
- Pregnant teens earn points by participating in sound prenatal and postnatal care and can use those points to “purchase” items from the Teen Closet. SITD ensures that this closet is kept stocked with everything from diapers to baby clothes and toys.
- Career Resource Fair
- In March our local school district hosts a Career Resource Fair for local high school juniors. In past years SITD has helped with set up, time keeping, scheduling, and managing student traffic.
